Bartenders from around the world have been chosen to join the UK winners of the global “We are the Tastemakers” competition run by Martin Miller’s Gin.

From mainland Europe, the winner was Markus Müller from Bartista bar in Tübingen in Germany, who created a cocktail mixing the gin with lemon verbena, riesling ice wine and elderflower liqueur. In this video, Markus shows how to make his cocktail while sailing down the Neckar river through historic Tübingen.

The finalists created serves to epitomise the gin brand’s ethos of “Romance and adventure in a glass”, submitting videos that captured the inspiration and method behind their inventions.

The winner from the Americas was Lisandro Rodriguez Araoz from Argentinean cocktail company Milk whose cocktail, The Last Shaman, combined the gin with a lemon balm infusion, egg white and lemon verbena bitters, garnished with a homemade confit. Click here for his video.

The winner for Australasia was Gorge Camorra from Cloud 9 Bar & Lounge in Geelong in Australia, whose Miller’s Creek is a Negroni twist featuring Martin Miller’s, Maidenii Australian Native Botanicals Sweet Vermouth, Aperol, Tamborine Mountain Australian Herbal Liqueur and Regan’s Orange Bitters, stirred down with eucalyptus leaves. They will join the UK winners – Megs DeMeleunaere from The Pond Dalston in London and Alex Lawrence of Orchid in Aberdeen – on an all-expenses-paid trip to Iceland, home of the water with which Martin Miller’s Gin is blended.

Jacob Ehrenkrona, chief executive of Martin Miller’s Gin, said: “We were overwhelmed with the quality of the competition. The originality of the flavour pairings, the stories behind the ingredients and the overall drink experience was unprecedented.”
