Are you concerned about cats’ irrational fear of cucumbers? If not, you’re not alone but, just in case, a new campaign has been launched by Hendrick’s Gin in advance of World Cucumber Day on June 14.

It features this new 60-second film in which Hendrick’s global brand ambassador David Piper provides tips to help keep cats calm in the face of any perceived cucumber threats.

The campaign, which coincides with World Gin Day on June 11, will also include a bespoke greetings card and a Catnip & Cucumber Cooler cocktail. It is inspired by the signature Hendricks Gin & Tonic serve with a slice of cucumber.

David explains: “Cats have an illogical fear of cucumbers, so as inventors of the cucumber garnish, we have to act responsibly and ensure cats feel at ease as we enjoy our Hendrick’s libations garnished, of course, with a cucumber.

“We encourage curious individuals the world over to take the necessary cat-calming precautions to ensure we celebrate World Cucumber Day with a slice of the unusual while kittens keep their cool.”

Sam Bovill, Hendrick’s Gin UK senior brand manager, adds: “We couldn’t possibly let this day go by without a suitably whimsical Hendrick’s celebration for the curious fruit we hold so dear. After all our gin is uniquely infused with cucumber and rose. It gives us the perfect opportunity to share our most unusual personality in a fun and humorous way.”
