Rémy Martin and Cointreau have joined forces to celebrate the Sidecar for London Cocktail Week.
The video shows 6th generation member of the Cointreau family Alfred Cointreau and Rémy Martin UK brand ambassador Jack Charlton’s fun ‘Sidecar journey’, from Paris to London.
The two houses are setting out to “invigorate” the iconic timeless cocktail with an inaugural trade competition and consumer activation.
First coined in Harry MacElhone’s book The ABC of Bartending back in 1922, The Sidecar was made famous at the Ritz in Paris, combining Rémy Martin and Cointreau.
In homage to this marriage, the two houses launched the Sidecar Cup, a nationwide trade competition designed to create a conceptual and contemporary twist on this timeless classic cocktail.
Bartenders across the UK were invited to post their creation onto Instagram, challenging two other bartenders to do the same, creating an organic acceleration and spread of the competition.
The bartenders with the most exceptional creations were invited to compete in the final hosted at Mercato Metropolitano on 18 September.
A small panel of Rémy Martin judges chose the winners of five most exceptional cocktails based on taste, innovation and heritage of both houses, to be served at the Sidecar Bar by Rémy Martin and Cointreau at the London Cocktail Week village from the 3–7 October.
As grand prize of the competition, the overall top selling twisted Sidecar will win its creator a once in a lifetime experience at the spiritual home of the Sidecar; a weekend at The Ritz in Paris.
