Wadworth looks to Wales with return of rugby-inspired ale

dirty rucker pump clips 2018

English brewer Wadworth is bringing back its popular rugby-inspired ale Dirty Rucker – but with a special alternative pump clip for the Welsh.

Brewed using Crystal, Pale Ale and Munich malts, with roasted barley for extra flavour, the seasonal ale has an ABV of 3.9%. To add bitterness and aroma, it uses a mixture of Goldings, Challenger, Cascade and Willamette hops.

It is described as “a bold English ale”, with a red, white and blue pump clip, but for 2018, Wiltshire-based Wadworth has also come up with a clip for Welsh fans and licensees in Wales, drawing on the green, red and white of the Welsh flag.

The ruby beer is fruity on the palate with a malty sweetness that leads to a peppery note for a smooth finish, said to pair well with English hot pot, Irish stew, nutty cheeses, roast beef, meat pies and bread and butter pudding.

Andy Weaver, brewer at Wadworth, added: “Following the success of Dirty Rucker in the past, it was a no-brainer to brew it once again to support our squad. We wish the team the best of luck in this year’s Six Nations: we’ll be rooting for them from Wiltshire!”
