WESTONS CIDER’S STOWFORD PRESS ANNOUNCES ON-TRADE LAUNCH OF NEW DARK BERRY VARIANT

Westons Cider, the UK’s leading authentic cider maker, is launching a new Dark Berry variant from its Stowford Press brand, to the on-trade in response to growing consumer demand.

As the fruit sub-category stabilises, dark berry flavours continue to come out on top, with the majority of consumers opting for cherry, blackberry and blackcurrant over lighter berry flavours. With this insight, Westons Cider has updated its Stowford Press draught fruit offering moving away from Mixed Berry into Dark Berry to ensure venues are offering drinkers their preferred choice in time for the warmer weather, when demand for fruit cider soars.

After years of rapid growth, the fruit cider market has settled at around one third of the total category(36.9%). This now stable segment has a strong customer base, whose palates prefer a darker flavour profile. The clear staying power of fruit ciders, paired with the continued popularity of draught offerings (+61.5%YOY, representing 24.65% of total category), provides a welcome opportunity for outlets to drive sales with a cider specifically suited to these evolving consumer preferences.

This new launch marks an evolution of the range from Stowford Press Mixed Berry, an apple-based cider, to a vibrant berry-based cider packed with rich flavours.

Holly Chadwick, Brand Manager for Stowford Press, comments: “We launched Stowford Press Mixed Berry five years ago to ensure pubs and bars were able to make the most of the fast-growing fruit cider sub-category.

“As the market matures, we’re updating our offering to ensure we remain set to best serve loyal fruit cider drinkers – who are overwhelmingly choosing darker fruit flavours year-round.

“Following an incredibly successful trial period, we’re delighted to be introducing our updated berry offering to pubs and bars nationwide.”

At 4% ABV, the new Dark Berry variant from Stowford Press is a well-balanced cider, with a core flavour profile of fresh blackcurrant and sweet blackberry. Appealing to the younger adults drinkers entering the category, and established cider drinkers seeking a refreshing alternative, Stowford Press Dark Berry delivers a sweet and delicious serve ideal for the warmer  months.

Run by the fourth generation of the Weston family, Westons Cider – based in Herefordshire – also produces brands Henry Westons, Old Rosie, Rosie’s Pig and distributes Veltins German Pilsener in the UK.
