Westons launches hopped cider with Purity brewery

Westons Cider Pure Hopped

Premium cider producer Westons has teamed up with Purity Brewing Company to launch a cider made with a dash of hops.

Pure Hopped is made with a 100% fresh apple juice from Herefordshire plus high-quality hops from Worcestershire, creating a smooth, well-balanced cider. It comes in 330ml cans and on draught, with ABV of 4%.

It is part of a range of craft ciders available in cans in the on-trade along with Caple Rd, the drier Caple Rd No 5 and two flavoured ciders under the Rosie’s Pig brand, Handbrake Cloudy Cider with Damson and Flat Tyre Cloudy Cider with Rhubarb.

Tessa Holden, brand manager for Westons craft ciders, said: “We are extremely excited to be launching Pure Hopped together with our friends at Purity Brewing Company. The new hopped cider will add genuine breadth to the growing craft cider category.

“The launch follows the highly successful introduction of the UK’s first craft cider in a can and our insight shows that craft cider is the second biggest trend in the on-trade at the moment.

“Pure Hopped is the result of a chance meeting on a visit to Worcestershire-based fruit and hop farm, Stocks Farm, which brought together Westons head cider maker Guy Lawrence and Purity’s founder Paul Halsey, a long-time admirer of US hopped ciders.

“As they meandered though hop bines and orchards at Ali Capper’s idyllic Stocks Farm an idea struck them both. They shared a cursory look and both thought ‘what if…’

“Enjoying a drink at the end of the walk, looking out over the rows of hops and apple orchards, Guy told Paul to bring his finest hops to the cider mill where they would combine them with a unique blend of 100% cider apples. Two weeks later they poured two glasses straight from the tap.”

Paul Halsey, founder of Purity Brewing Company, added: “We are in an age of true innovation in the drinks sector. We are proud to have been at the forefront of the craft beer movement in the UK throughout the past 10 years and are delighted to be working with Westons on our latest collaboration.

“Hopped cider is something I came across in the US and ever since then I have wanted to make one. Combining the expertise of Westons and innovation of Purity has led us to create a premium craft cider of the finest quality.”
