Whisky and music ambassador appointed to help build 8O8

A “whisky and music ambassador” has been appointed for single grain whisky 8O8 to help build the brand in the UK on-trade.

The 8O8 Drinks Company has recruited Andy Huntley (pictured) because of his background in both the drinks industry, most recently at William Grant & Sons UK, and as a musician.

In the new role, he will help 8O8 to support and nurture the underground music scene and become the whisky of the music, club and festival scene.

Andy will focus on the UK’s on-trade, using his extensive knowledge of the club and bar scene, as well as helping with global strategy and 8o8’s ongoing expansion into new territories.

He has been an accomplished and award-winning singer/songwriter for over 20 years, working alongside the likes of Snow Patrol and Ellie Goulding and performing several times in front of the royals, Harry and William. Click here to hear some of his music.

Andy said: “8O8 brings together whisky and music which are two of my big passions in life. I am so excited to join the team. 8O8 was created to support music and help give artists and DJs a new platform which I am very passionate about.

“We’re looking to support and nurture the underground scene by giving the artist absolute creative control on the way we work together.

“We’re also breaking the norm by becoming the whisky of the music, club and festival scene and at the same time introducing a whole new consumer to the category.

“Nobody can argue with how beneficial that is to the industry as a whole – it also helps that the liquid is delicious.”

Andy began his career as a barback in Sydney, Australia, and went on to work with Bacardi Brown-Forman Brands as an account manager, working with leading bar industry names such as Jacob Briars, Alex Turner and Ben Carlotto. He spent the past five years in business development at William Grant & Sons UK, focusing on whisky.

8O8 was launched in 2016 by music producer and DJ TommyD and entrepreneur Paul Pullinger. Having recruited whisky legend Jonathan Driver to help with the creation of the liquid, they built an advisory team from both the drinks and music industry including Warner Music UK CEO Max Lousada, ex-Red Bull chief Harry Drnec, David Rae, the ex-CEO of North British Whisky Distillery, and legendary DJ Pete Tong.
