Winners announced in Hotelympia innovation awards

TenderOneA machine that prepares up to 1,000 cocktails per hour and a self-stabilising flip-top table were among winners of this year’s Hotelympia Innovation Awards.

A team of judges from the hospitality industry selected the four most ground-breaking products at this week’s Hotelympia show which took place at London Excel from April 28 to May 1.

Covering the four categories of Catering Equipment, Food & Drink, Technology and Design & Tabletop, they were announced on the main stage at a ceremony overseen by celebrated chef and restaurateur Cyrus Todiwala.

TenderOne Bar Services won with its TenderOne system (pictured) which can prepare up to 32 different ingredients, each dispensed in seconds precisely into a shaker or glass. It is designed to help bar staff to prepare hundreds of recipes, allowing operators to achieve higher revenues, zero waste and increased efficiency.

The StableTable Flip Top is a new product from StableTable, which combines its revolutionary self-stabilising table design with a mechanism that folds the top 90 degrees. The design means that it can be stored up to five times better and is easier to carry through narrow doors while still never wobbling irrespective of where you place it.

Love Taste Co won for its Love Fruit Tea, which is made with 100% natural ingredients in four flavours, with an abundance of health benefits. The frozen pods just need to be put one in a cup with hot water and stirred to release real fruit flavour.

The Multiplex BIC Blend-In-Cup machine from Manitowoc Foodservice incorporates the company’s EasyTouch control panel for efficient and intuitive operation, whether creating indulgent frappés or smoothies. Regular cleaning is simple, with automatic rinsing between each drink to safeguard against flavour transference and “clean-in-place” ice machine sanitisation.

Graham Veal, marketing vice president for Manitowoc Foodservice, said: “We’re very proud. It’s a tough competition but we really enjoyed participating – we’re absolutely jubilant.”

Finalists were asked to pitch their products in a behind-closed-doors arena to Hotelympia’s Innovation Idols – handpicked captains of industry spanning the hospitality world.

They included Robbie Bargh, owner of hospitality consultancy Gorgeous Group; Nick Sandler, creative chef for Pret A Manger; Vanessa Brady, president of the Society of British Interior Designers (SBID); Adam Marshall, chief executive of London-based bar group Grand Union; Professor David Russell and David Bentley from catering consultancy The Russell Partnership; Cyrus Todiwala; 2013 National Chef of the Year, Hayden Groves; food futurologist Morgaine Gaye; and Jody Scheckter, founder of Laverstoke Park Farm.

Toby Wand, managing director at show organiser Fresh Montgomery, said: “Congratulations to our winners – truly some of the brightest new products in an industry alive with innovation. Thank you to everyone who entered. Each one of you has helped raise the bar yet again, resulting in our strongest year yet.”
