Winners announced in London Club & Bar Awards

Hush Aviator Bar

Hush, McQueen, Madison and Albert’s were among venues to triumph at this year’s London Club & Bar Awards.

Hush in Mayfair was named best bar as it celebrates its 18th birthday and a major facelift by top designer Russell Sage, including the creation of the ultra-glamorous Aviator Bar (pictured).

Hush’s owner Jamie Barber said: “To receive such an award in the year we turn 18 is truly exceptional. Russell’s brilliance may have revitalised the space, but our original premise, to create a homage to the golden age of travel where our guests can hang out at any time of the day or night, remains the same.”

The Bar at Madison, the D&D London restaurant near St Paul’s, was named best City bar while McQueen in Shoreditch was best DJ bar. Polo Bar at The Westbury in Mayfair won the title of best hotel bar alongside Blakes Hotel in Kensington for best boutique hotel bar.

Julian Bolenz, formerly at bars such as Golden Bee and now a consultant and brand ambassador, won the award for best bartender.

Sketch in Mayfair won the award for best design. Park Chinois in Mayfair took the title of best restaurant bar while Quaglino’s was named best restaurant lounge. Buddha Bar in Knightsbridge won the outstanding achievement award and Dstrkt was named best concept venue.

Albert’s in South Kensington won the award for best new club, with an award for services to the industry going to Fraser Carruthers who set the venue up with Jake Parkinson-Smith, Carlo Carello and Piers Adam.

The title of best club went to Tape London, which opened in the former site of Jalouse in Mayfair, while Montezuma London in South Kensington was named best boutique club.
