Winners announced in Underground Punch Pong League

UPPL winners

Two bartenders from London have been announced as champions of this year’s nationwide league in the game of punch pong.

Robb Collins and Peter Lidstone from London Cocktail Club in Goodge Street triumphed in a hard-fought battle involving eight teams during London Cocktail Week last week.

They were declared winners of the Underground Punch Pong League – Monin and Plantation Bartenders Challenge Cup 2015 at the event at London Cocktail Club in Shoreditch.

As well as now being custodians of the coveted UPPL trophy, Robb and Peter won tickets to an upcoming NFL game at Wembley Stadium.

The runners-up were Chris Jordan and Chris Powers from Crazy Pedro’s Part-Time Pizza Parlour in Manchester.

Sponsored by Monin UK and Plantation Rum, the annual punch pong competition was founded in 2013 by JJ Goodman, co-founder of London Cocktail Club.

Throughout the summer, bartenders across the country competed against each other in tournaments based on the game of beer pong but challenging teams to get ping pong balls into cups containing punch rather than beer.

They use London Cocktail Club’s Black Pearl Punch, which is made with Monin Orgeat syrup and Plantation Rum.

James Coston, Monin’s UK brand ambassador, said: “Huge congratulations to our winners on their stunning victory in the Punch Pong Arena! The UPPL Monin and Plantation Bartenders’ Challenge Cup is all about fun but it’s also a great way of networking and strengthening ties between bars across the country. I would like to say a huge thank you to everyone who took part and supported the competition.”

JJ said: “It’s been a whirlwind of emotions over the past few months and the reception we received across the UK when we rolled into each city was phenomenal.

“Many thanks to all the bars that hosted each of the heats. Their hospitality was amazing and the efforts they put into getting people down to each event was really appreciated. I’d also like to thank Monin and Plantation Rum for backing the tour. There was no better way to kick off London Cocktail Week than with a few rounds of punch pong!”

The event was one of the highlights of London Cocktail Week which ran from October 5 to 12.
