Recyclable cutlery, a soft-serve ice cream machine and a mobile ordering solution have been named winners in the Hotelympia Innovation Awards.
Run as part of the Hotelympia trade show at London ExCel this week, they were chosen out of 19 finalists in the categories of interiors, technology, and catering equipment – picked from the many new products at the event.
In technology, the judges gave the award to Wi-Q, the cloud-based mobile ordering and payment solution, highlighting its innovation in improving the customer experience and boosting revenue across the hospitality industry.
Without any of the limitations of an app, Wi-Q allows customers to browse, order, re-order and pay using a number of choices on any mobile or wifi-enabled device, with options such as bill-splitting.
Graham Cornhill, Wi-Q founder and director, said: “We knew the industry needed something that was affordable, accessible, future-proof and that would add real value to the customer experience. We’re happy to say that our customers tell us that it also significantly improves revenue from day one. There is nothing like Wi-Q and we are so proud and delighted to be recognised by the industry’s leading influencers.”
Carpigiani UK won the equipment category with its machine Multiple Choice, which can produce ice cream with three different types of variegato and four different flavours of milkshake, boasting an impressive output of up to 400 cones and 250 milkshakes per hour. The space-saving machine eliminates the need to buy multiple pieces of equipment while significantly reducing energy usage and accompanying expenditure.
Multiple Choice (pictured below) also boasts an innovative self-pasteurisation system, meaning the machine only requires a deep clean every six weeks, saving significant amounts of labour and downtime, while also reducing the amount of stock wastage during the cleaning process.
Scott Duncan, sales director at Carpigiani UK, said: “We are truly delighted that this particular range has been so highly commended by a panel of industry experts. Having Carpigiani products win awards such as this simply reiterates that the package we provide our customers is supported by industry expertise, reassuring them of high quality service from start to finish.”
In the interiors category, the winner was Vegware with its unique compostable black cutlery made from 100% recycled plant material. With 90% less carbon than plastic, certified compostable, and heatproof to 85C, the cutlery is practical, stylish and eco-friendly. The only recycled compostable black cutlery on the market, Vegware allows brands to meet sustainability targets without compromising on style.
