Winners revealed in London’s Time Out Bar Awards

The best, most creative and hippest bars in London have been recognised in this year’s Time Out Bar Awards.

Punch Room at The London Edition hotel in Fitzrovia was named both bar of the year and most stylish bar while the title of best new bar went to Original Sin in Stoke Newington – from the team behind the award-winning Happiness Forgets.

Ryan Chetiyawardana and his team triumphed in two categories, winning the award for best bartender or bar team for Dandelyan at the Mondrian London hotel and the title of most creative bar for White Lyan in Hoxton.

The award for hippest bar went to Satan’s Whiskers in Bethnal Green while the Connaught Bar at the Connaught Hotel in Mayfair was named the classiest bar.

The London awards are part of a new Global Bar Awards programme bringing together Time Out’s awards for New York City, Los Angeles, Paris and Chicago.

Ryan and staff from Dandelyan will have a chance to fly to Austin in Texas for an event celebrating the winners of the best bartender/team category in all five cities.

The London winners were announced at a ceremony last night (June 13) at Rumpus Room at the Mondrian London hotel, featuring drinks from sponsors Woodford Reserve bourbon, Gin Mare and Matugga rum.

Judges included Hannah Sharman-Cox, founder of DrinkUp.London which runs London Wine Week and London Cocktail Week, global rum ambassador Ian Burrell, and bartenders Alex Kratena, formerly of The Langham hotel’s Artesian Bar, and Ryan Chetiyawardana (although he was not allowed to vote on his own bars). The judges were led by Tania Ballantine, UK food and drink editor at Time Out London.
