World’s Best Martini Challenge names its 2019 champion

Campfire Gin, The World’s Best Martini Challenge

Campfire Gin was crowned the winner of this year’s The World’s Best Martini Challenge at a public final hosted at 100 Wardour Street in Soho.

In November 2018, founders and Martini aficionados Gary Sharp and James Thomas called on gin brands across the UK to put forward their spirit to be the official base for The World’s Best Martini.

The competition saw six finalists battle it out for the ultimate title, including Campfire Gin, HMS Spirits Mary Rose, Marylebone Gin, Plymouth Gin, Conker Spirits Navy Strength Gin and last year’s winners Arbikie

On the night, each of the spirits teamed up with a bar and bartender to be scored on both a showcase Martini and a classic Martini. Ben and Kate from Campfire worked in partnership with bartender Roberto from Dylan’s Kings Arms in St Albans.

The brand’s showcase Martini, a combination of Campfire London Dry Gin and Dolin Dry Vermouth, garnished with orange peel “flowers” soaked in Carpano Antica Formula Vermouth, impressed judges Rebecca Milford of BarChick, Ivan Dixon of Entroria&Coe and Gabriele Sasnauskaite of Artesian Bar at The Langham.

The World’s Best Martini Challenge will return in 2020 for its fourth year, welcoming gin brands from all over the world.

Campfire will compete against five new finalists to defend their title of the World’s Best Martini 2019.
