Yorkshire Wolds drinks producer Raisthorpe Distillery has been awarded two coveted 1-star awards at this year’s Great Taste Awards, the largest and most trusted independent accreditation scheme for fine food and drink.

Raisthorpe’s Perfect Pear and Peppercorn Gin and Oak Aged Dry Distilled Gin both won a 1-star award each.

Receiving a 1-star Great Taste Award means that judges said both gins delivered fantastic flavour.

Raisthorpe’s Pear and Peppercorn is one of three Raisthorpe Garden Gins which are among the most recent additions to the distillery’s product range. The judges said of Raisthorpe’s Pear and Peppercorn Gin:“Works well with tonic, creating a rather unique experience – both pear and earthy pepper come through satisfyingly.”

Raisthorpe was also awarded 1-star for its Oak Aged Dry Distilled Gin. Judges said: “A delicious blast of freshly cut grass on the nose. Delivered well on the sweeter botanicals and on the oak and vanilla.”

More than 14,113 products from 108 countries were submitted for the awards. Over 1,355 experts, comprising chefs, buyers, food writers and retailers, judged the awards at socially distanced judging sessions to ensure robust and impartial judging standards.

Julia Medforth, founder of Raisthorpe Distillery, said: “We’re delighted that our products have gained these highly respected accolades against some really tough competition. Our Oak Aged Dry Distilled Gin is a favourite with our customers, while our new Perfect Pear and Peppercorn Gin is proving popular with gin lovers and it’s great to receive further independent endorsement from experts.

“The Great Taste Awards provide a benchmark of quality for artisan food producers and mean that consumers can be confident that our products taste as great as they look.”

Raisthorpe is a family business launched more than 10 years ago by Julia at the family farm at Thixendale on the Yorkshire Wolds.

Using foraged botanicals, blended with water from the underground streams of the Gypsey Spring that runs under the farm, Raisthorpe makes small batch, hand crafted spirits.

Raisthorpe’s artisan spirits and Yorkshire Tonics have won 55 Great Taste Awards since 2011. The drinks are widely stocked in farm shops, delis, independent retailers, as well as the hospitality sector. They are also available from Raisthorpe’s shop at the York Designer Outlet shopping centre and online at www.raisthorpemanor.com
