Young bartenders are being recruited for the Monin Cup competition, with the prize of a trip to Berlin and a chance to compete in the global final in Paris.
Held every other year, the competition is back for a third time, seeking professional bartenders under the age of 28, challenging them to “Mix their origins” to demonstrate their creativity.
They have to create two cocktails – one alcoholic, one non-alcoholic – using products from the extensive Monin range of high-quality syrups, fruit mixes and liqueurs.
Regional heats will be held around the UK, leading up to a UK final in London on September 24. The UK winner will be taken on a trip to the Berlin Bar Convent trade show in October and have the chance to become a Monin brand ambassador and represent the UK in the Monin Cup international final in Paris in December.
Lee Hyde, innovation manager at Monin UK and a former bartender, said: “The Monin Cup is a fantastic opportunity for young bartenders to raise their profile in the UK and offers them the chance to show off their skills, recipes and concepts with bartenders on a global scale.
“Each year we are blown away with the talent we see from young UK bartenders, and the competition continues to push the boundaries of flavour combinations and inventive serves.
“Judges will be on the lookout for colour, appearance, garnishes, aroma, balance, taste and originality so entrants must make sure their recipes tick all of these boxes.
“At the live finals they will also be marking the showmanship, cleanliness and skills of the bartenders, all of which are a crucial part of serving a cocktail.”
To enter the competition, participants must be a professional bartender or student of a bar school under the age of 28 in December 2018. The only rule is the recipes must use at least 10ml of Monin syrup, fruit mix or liqueur per drink.
